Want to make Tasty Nosh For Less Dosh?
We’ve come up with delicious bob-saving solutions for your favourite meals.
Top hacks for making Tom’s Tacos:
1. Reduce your cost per serve on mince by buying bigger packs of meat and bulking it out with lentils or beans
2. Dried lentils over tinned is often cheaper per gram (top tip: batch cook your lentil mince mix so it’s ready to go for lasagne, pies, you name it..)
3. Pack a flavour punch using Colman’s Chilli Con Carne Recipe Mix – no need to buy all the separate seasoning ingredients!
Ingredients (Serves 4)
250 grams lean minced beef
1 finely chopped onion
200 grams lentils
150 millilitres water
Colman's Recipe Mix Chilli Con Carne
8 soft tortillas
1 avocado chopped
2 tomatoes cut into small chunks
Heat oil in a non-stick frying pan and crumble in the mince meat and chopped onion. Cook for 15 minutes, stirring so it browns all over.
Blend the contents of the sachet with water and add to the mince, with the pre-prepared lentils. Cook for another 5 minutes until the lentils are soft and beef is cooked through.
Prepare the tortillas by toasting them in a hot, dry frying pan, or over a flame until lightly blistered.
To serve, lay the toppings and mince on the table for everyone to assemble as they like!
Add the lime wedges on the side for squeezing over.
